A technical problem occurred with the blog this week and, in an attempt to fix it, my subscriber database was wiped out. Richard and I went through our list of comments and tried to re-create the subscriber list. This is why you may have gotten an email from the blog requesting confirmation that you are a subscriber. Hi Sarah,

Today I was reading the November/December 2009 issue of Writer’s Digest that I picked up at Springmingle. On p. 10 there’s a column by Robert Lee Brewer called Poetic Asides. He has a quick paragraph on Poetic Forms in each colunn. This one is on Fibonacci Poems (or Fibs). The format looks like this:

    Line 1: 1 syllable
    Line 2: 1 syllable
    Line 3: 2 syllables
    Line 4: 3 syllables
    Line 5: 5 syllables
    Line 6: 8 syllables

And on and on, as far as you want to go!

I thought you’d appreciate it. I haven’t tried my hand at one yet, but I think I’ll give it a shot.

Thanks, Doraine. I’ve written some Fibs. They’re fun. I got the idea from Greg Pincus. The form is also mentioned in the current issue of IRA’s trade magazine, Reading Teacher.
