sarah gecko-2Here is an interesting gecko. My friend Julie told me about seeing these at her house; other friends said they have them at their house. I don’t have any at mine. After a brief internet search I am thinking it is a Mediterranean Gecko. Do you have these guys where you live?

Here’s another one. You can tell they are different because of their tails. You may not be able to tell, but these photos were taken after it got dark outside. I couldn’t see well enough to do a manual focus. My automatic focus wouldn’t work until Julie turned on her porch light. These were taken using a flash.

These photos are so much clearer and detailed than mine. I tried to get some more last night. I saw two about the size of the ones in your photos and one very small one. I even stood on a little stool and was able to take some photos without the gecko running away. The smallest one seems to be more easily frightened.

I’m thinking of getting a more powerful camera given that I’m taking so many close-ups and that I am enjoying it so much — maybe a Nikon D40?

I was using R’s D200 here with a macro lens; ours is a Tamron and it has worked really well for what we’ve done in the past.

If he were only green, I would swear he’s the Geico gecko

Douglas said: “That’s not a gecko. Geckos are green and talk about car insurance.” He also suggested I write a book, titled Gecko: A Frontyard Predator.
